Meet your tour leader and fellow travellers at the Reykjavík hotel this afternoon for an overview of the next few days. Tonight, enjoy a hearty welcome dinner and get ready for a thrilling Iceland group tour ahead.
Today, we travel through the Hvalfjörður tunnel, pausing at the Deildartunguhver – the highest-flow hot spring in Europe. Next, you’ll visit the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, where water appears straight out of the ancient rocks. Afterwards, view the unusual Víðimýrarkirkja turf church. This afternoon, you’ll cross the Öxnadalsheiði mountain pass into North Iceland en route to Akureyri, your home for tonight. Take this evening to unwind.
After breakfast, make your way to Goðafoss waterfall. Then, stop for photos at the Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters on Lake Mývatn, and enjoy an included lunch. Next, walk through the Dimmuborgir lava field and explore the Námaskarð geothermal area. Continue on to Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. This afternoon, cross the scenic Möðrudalsöræfi highland desert en route to Egilsstaðir, home for the night.
Please Note: The visit to Dettifoss is dependent on road conditions. The Dettifoss viewpoint is a 15-20 minute walk each way over uneven terrain.
Today is a day for scenery. You’ll follow the Ring Road through the Eastfjords, passing dramatic cliffs, and follow the coast to the village of Breiðdalsvík. There, visit a mid-20th-century cooperative trading post, still open today. Continue on to Djúpivogur, the country’s “slow town”, and see the Eggs of Merry Bay. Afterwards, head to your home for tonight in Höfn. The evening is yours.
Your first stop today is Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Just down the road, you'll visit Diamond Beach, where icebergs wash ashore. Then, cross the Eldhraun lava fields to the village of Vík. Next, Reynisfjara's black sand and towering basalt await. Move on to Skógafoss waterfall, and dare to climb to the top. Lastly, visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall and walk the optional trails, weather permitting. Tonight, enjoy free time in Selfoss. Please Note: The Skógafoss staircase – 527 steps – and the Gljúfrabúi path at Seljalandsfoss are optional activities for fit walkers.
Today, experience the Golden Circle! First, view the Gullfoss waterfall, which thunders in two tiers. Move on to the Geysir geothermal area, where Strokkur, the fountain geyser, erupts every few minutes. Then, explore Thingvellir National Park and walk through the gorge. This evening, savour your last night with the group at the farewell dinner back in Reykjavík. Or, if you can’t say goodbye yet, extend your stay and book the optional Snæfellsnes Peninsula tour for the next day.
After breakfast, you’ll either conclude your magical tour of Iceland and make your way back home, or choose to add one more day to your trip and explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This is an optional excursion with an extra hotel night in Reykjavík. Make even more memories and discover a rare golden beach, walk along a cliff, and see the country’s most photographed mountain.
